#052 How to Reflect Effectively as a Coach

Aug 29, 2022

This week's episode was requested by a member of our Coaching Crowd group and also links to the core coaching competency around understanding self and others. We are delighted to talk about the importance of reflection as a coach and how it can be done effectively.

We discuss:

  • What reflective practice actually is
  • How your reflective practice might change from training to when you are actively coaching
  • The questions you can ask yourself to be reflective
  • The different types of reflection and which lens you use to look through
  • How to form a reflective practice and routine
  • How reflection can be seen as a chore, but it can also be deeply enriching
  • How reflection is not just about noticing gaps, but also about celebration
  • Where and what spaces you can use to reflect within
  • How to develop a reflective practice that suspends self judgement

Reflection is the unsung hero of coaching and plays a part in being a great coach. It is important to remember that it is a skill that needs to be developed so have fun with this, be patient and stay curious.
