#049 Coaching Perfectionism

Aug 08, 2022

In this week's episode we are talking about coaching perfectionism. The word perfectionist is a label we give to ourselves and it can see our coachees putting pressure on themselves to deliver a perfect result. Sometimes a coachee might know that it is perfectionism that needs to be explored and others might have no awareness. So let's start to highlight this issue that can show up in our coaching sessions.

We discuss:

  • How perfectionism can show up in someone
  • How as a coach you can spot signs of perfectionism in your coachee
  • What might a coachee say to indicate they are a perfectionist?
  • Are there elements of strength within perfectionism?
  • Where the need to be perfect derives from
  • What is the purpose of the perfect driver and how can your client find other ways to meet that need?
  • The impact it can have on work and personal relationships

We may not be able to provide you with a series of tools to work with a coachee who is a perfectionist but we are able to raise your awareness of how it might show up in your coachee. In reality being present with your coachee and enabling them to discover their own solutions is the most effective way to support your coachee with perfectionism.
