#016 The Art of Listening in Coaching

Jan 17, 2022

As you aim to become highly skilled in the coaching space, you need to hone the art of listening to your client, rather than trying to rescue them. In today's episode, we'll be talking about the importance of creating a safe space for your clients to connect with their inner thoughts and resources. We'll also be sharing with you some useful tips on how to balance all the coaching skills while in a coaching conversation.

What you will learn in this episode:

  • How to master the art of listening as a coach
  • Different levels and styles of listening in a coaching conversation
  • How a rescue approach can be a disempowering method of coaching
  • How to balance between listening to your client and sharing your own thoughts
  • The importance of tuning out the noise and focusing on your client in a conversation
  • Coaching a story vs. coaching a client

To be fully present in a coaching session, you need to clear your mind of everything that will distract you from listening to the coachee. You need to come with the right mind space and patience, so your client feels safe to open up to you. Set aside your assumptions and listen to what they have to say, so they can leave the session feeling heard, supported and fulfilled.
